Registration Information

Catalogs & Schedules

As a graduate student, Continuous Registration is expected every semester as appropriate for the program, from admission through graduation, until all
requirements for the degree are completed.
For example, students enrolled in graduate programs offering courses only in summer should be continuously registered for every summer semester until the requirements for the degree are completed.
To make continuous progress in their graduate program, students
have the following options:
• Registering for at least one graduate level credit
applicable to their graduate degree, or
• Paying the continuous registration fee to remain active in
the graduate program although not registered in any courses.
Students are also expected to register or pay the continuous registration
fee for the summer if they use university facilities or consult with
faculty during the summer.
Please contact the individual graduate program for departmental policy/requirements concerning continuous
registration and course registration numbers (CRNs).
The continuous registration fee may be paid during each
semester's late registration period or in the Cashier’s Office up until the end
of late registration.

Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan

The Graduate Student Health Insurance Policy is a benefit for graduate students who are on a research (RA) or teaching (TA) assistantship or a University Fellowship (e.g. Graduate Fellowship, NSF Fellowship, etc.). The University pays the policy on behalf of the student. Graduate students not on a research/teaching assistantship or fellowship CANNOT purchase this policy. They can purchase the “regular” UAA student health insurance policy during fee payment. Eligible graduate students are automatically enrolled by the Graduate School upon receipt of a copy of their assistantship/fellowship letter to the Graduate School.

It is the student’s responsibility to provide a copy of their letter to the Graduate School each semester. Contract/Award letters must be delivered in person by the student and NOT faxed or sent to The Graduate School. At that time we will give each new eligible student a copy of the Graduate Student Health Insurance Policy packet. We will make exceptions for students not physically in Anchorage.

It is important for students to know that they are not to add the regular student insurance plan when they are completing registration online. They will not see an option for the Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan, as this is an automatic benefit for those eligible students. Graduate students eligible for this policy cannot opt out of the Graduate Student Health Insurance even if they are covered by another insurance policy. If a graduate student is covered by another plan, double coverage is to their benefit.
