2010 Full Scale Institutional Accreditation Evaluation at UAA
The University of Alaska Anchorage has been continuously accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) since 1974. Our accreditation through NWCCU has included our community campuses in Kenai, Kodiak, and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley since the merger in 1987. Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez is separately accredited by NWCCU.
UAA's last full-scale evaluation took place in 2000. Between full-scale evaluations, UAA is in regular communication with NWCCU regarding new programs and organizational changes, response to requests for focused interim reports on topics such as assessment and General Education Requirements, and through a number of focused site visits. The university and its academic, administrative, and student support functions were also reviewed in 2005 as part of a Regular Interim Report and Site Visit.
UAA is currently in the process of preparing for our next full-scale evaluation, which is scheduled to occur in 2010. The full-scale evaluation will consist of the creation of a comprehensive self study, followed by a site visit in the fall of 2010. The Accreditation Steering Committee will lead the efforts throughout the university as we prepare the self study.
