1. Friday November 6 from 3:00pm-5:00pm
Herminia Din's Art Appreciation Class presents "Junk to Funk" Art Sale for Anchorage Kids--A First Friday Art Event.

Proceeds from art sales will be donated to Kids' Kitchen in Anchorage. 

2. Special Hours: Saturday November 7th UAA Campus Bookstore open from 10:00am-2:00pm to celebrate National Bookstore Day

20% off storewide sale, exclusions apply (i.e. textbooks, software and computers, consignment, sundries).

Family of the World: Mexico from 11:00am-1:00pm
Sponsored by the International Student Association, reservations required. Fun activities for children 5-12 and Mexican refreshments.

3. Monday November 9 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
Bill Sherwonit, author of Changing Paths: Travels and Meditations in Alaska's Arctic Wilderness, presents "Notes from a Literary Journalist: The Importance of Passion, Persistence, and paying Attention".

This event is cosponsored with the UAA CWLA/MFA Program.

4. Tuesday November 10 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
How Life in the Arctic is Depicted with Seth Kantner, Phyllis Fast, James Labelle and Karla Booth.

Seth Kantner is author of the Ordinary Wolves and the book Shopping for Porcupine; Phyllis Fast is author of the book Northern Athabascan Survival/UAA Anthropology; James Labelle/UAA Alaska Native Studies; Karla Booth/ UAA Alaska Native Rural Outreach Program. Shopping for Porcupine is UAA/APU Book of the Year 2009-2010.

5. Wednesday November 11 from 5:30pm-6:30pm
International Student Association Passport Series: Cameroon with Bih Abaam

Everyone welcome to attend this event and learn about Cameroon and what life is like for Bih Abaam, living in Anchorage.

6. Tuesday November 17 6:00pm-8:00pm (note special hours)
Poet Joan Kane presents her new book of poetry, The Cormorant Hunter's Wife. Joan Kane is Inupiaq Eskimo, with family from King Island and Mary’s Igloo, Alaska. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and her M.F.A. in writing from Columbia University. A former Harvard National Scholar and recipient of a Columbia University Writing Fellowship, Kane received the John Haines Award from Ice Floe Press in 2004, was a semi-finalist for the Academy of American Poets' Walt Whitman Award in 2006, and received a 2007 individual artist award from the Rasmuson Foundation. In 2009 her play, "The Gilded Tusk", won the Anchorage Museum theatre contest and she was selected as a finalist for the Poetry Foundation's Ruth Lilly Fellowship. She is also a 2009 Whiting Writers' Award Winner. Along with her husband and son, she lives in Anchorage, Alaska. This event is sponsored with the Alaska Center for the Book and the ANAIHMC. It is held in celebration of Alaska Native American Indian Heritage Month.

7. Wednesday November 18 at 12:00pm
Allison Ward presents her play "Ode to the Polar Bear"

Allison Warden, a local Inupiaq artist performs her one-woman show "Ode to the Polar Bear". It’s a 30 minute performance about climate change, her home village Kaktovik and of course, the Polar Bear!

8. Thursday November 19 from 1:00pm-2:00pm
UAA's Culinary Arts & Hospitality's Chef Vern presents Holiday Treats

Chef Vern is stirring up fun once again at the UAA Campus Bookstore. Don't miss this chance to be engulfed in chocolate and other holiday delights. Everyone is welcome to attend.

9. Thursday November 19 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
Dogen: Offerings of Zen Literature with Koun Franz, Sensei

Koun Franz teaches Japanese at UAA Languages Department. Everyone is invited to attend this rare event focusing on classic Buddhist literature and Master Dogen.

10. Monday November 30 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
Elizabeth Tower presents her newest book Over the Back Fence, Conflicts on the United States/Canada Border from Maine to Alaska

Elizabeth Tower is author of numerous books about Alaska including Ice Bound Empire. She was named Historian of the year by the Alaska State Historical Society in 1996.

More Than Just Books


The UAA Campus Bookstore is a private, nonprofit institution owned by the
University of Alaska Anchorage. The Campus Bookstore is especially proud to employ students who mirror the cultural community at UAA.

 

Since 1954, the Campus Bookstore has provided a variety of services to UAA students, faculty, staff, and the Anchorage community. Today, it is the largest college bookstore in the state. Many visitors consider us a major point of interest during their visit to Alaska.

 
Special Events


Special events are organized at the Bookstore throughout the year to promote lively discussion and freedom of expression. All these events are free and open to the public.

 
Your Seawolves Apparel Headquarters

The University of Alaska Anchorage is home of the UAA Seawolves. The Campus Bookstore is the proud headquarters for licensed Seawolves apparel and merchandise.
