Dr. Cathryn Pearce presents the BBC Documentary Timewatch: The Wreckers.
Attention Maritime history buffs, archeologists, British historians and pirate lovers everywhere! Dr. Cathryn Pearce presents the BBC Documentary Timewatch: The Wreckers. In it we uncover the extraordinary social history of 18th century Britain and the much misunderstood wrecker profession--from their reputation in being the most brutal of plunderers to being the most brave and skillful of pirates. Dr. Cathryn Pearce is a major contributor to the Timewatch series and spent four years researching the subject of wrecking for her doctoral degree. She teaches in the History Department at Kenai Peninsula College/UAA. The event is sponsored by the UAA Campus Bookstore and UAA Student Life and Leadership.

10th Anniversary Celebration of Children of the Midnight Sun--Remembering the Birth of a Book and Its Effect on a Generation of Alaska Native Children

Join Author Tricia Brown and photographer Roy Corral in celebration of the the 10th anniversary of the publication of CHILDREN OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN. Find out "where are they now" as young contributors of the book speak about their life today.

Kirkus review stated,” Children of the Midnight Sun acknowledges the drastic changes of the last few decades, with the advent of satellite television, access to transportation, and the Internet, but focuses on the preservation or reawakening of culture through each child. Full-color photographs contrast images to convey life in a commercial fishing village or in Anchorage’s Town Square, amid the flowering tundra or perched on a seal strewn beach.”

What's changed since then? Let's see. The UAA Campus Bookstore and Alaska Northwest Books sponsor this event.
