International Development Research Center (IDRC)

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a Crown corporation created by the Parliament of Canada in 1970 to help developing countries use science and technology to find practical, long-term solutions to the social, economic, and environmental problems they face. Our support is directed toward creating a local research community whose work will build healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies.

They budgeted for approximately $170,000,000 dollars to be used towards research in 2008.

 Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH)

PATH is an international, nonprofit organization that creates sustainable, culturally relevant solutions, enabling communities worldwide to break longstanding cycles of poor health. By collaborating with diverse public- and private-sector partners, we help provide appropriate health technologies and vital strategies that change the way people think and act. Our work improves global health and well-being.

They have approximately $180 million within their budget, of which 32.7% goes to vaccines and immunizations. 26.6% to emerging and epidemic diseases, 19.2% to reproductive health, 12%health technologies, and 9.5% to maternal and child health and nutrition.

 International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.  IFAD is dedicated to eradicating rural poverty in developing countries. Seventy-five per cent of the world's poorest people - 1.05 billion women, children and men - live in rural areas and depend on agriculture and related activities for their livelihoods.

They gave out $41.8 million in grants, $282.7 million in domestic contributions, and $910.8 million in program and project cost in 2006 (there is also 3.2 billion in ongoing projects that is not tallied into this because it is not available for use).

ActionAid International

ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency whose aim is to fight poverty worldwide. Formed in 1972, for over 30 years we have been growing and expanding to where we are today - helping over 13 million of the world's poorest and most disadvantaged people in 42 countries worldwide.  ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency whose aim is to fight poverty worldwide.  Formed in 1972, for over 30 years we have been growing and expanding to where we are today - helping over 13 million of the world's poorest and most disadvantaged people in 42 countries worldwide.

They raised $28.8 million for disasters in 2007, and had $167 million for programs in 2007 as well as $20 million without restrictions.

WRI is an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people’s lives. Our mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.

In 2008 they spent $21,785,000 in program activities and $2,017,000 on development.

Founded in 1967 as the Environmental Defense Fund, we tackle the most serious environmental problems with: sound science, economic incentives, corporate partnerships, and getting the law right.  Environmental Defense Fund is a leading national nonprofit organization representing more than 500,000 members. Since 1967, we have linked science, economics and law to create innovative, equitable and cost-effective solutions to society's most urgent environmental problems.  Environmental Defense Fund is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Among these rights are access to clean air and water, healthy and nourishing food, and flourishing ecosystems.  Guided by science, Environmental Defense Fund evaluates environmental problems and works to create and advocate solutions that win lasting political, economic and social support because they are nonpartisan, cost-efficient and fair.  Environmental Defense Fund believes that a sustainable environment will require economic and social systems that are equitable and just. We affirm our commitment to the environmental rights of the poor and people of color.  As an American organization, Environmental Defense Fund will always pay special attention to American environmental problems and to America's role in both causing and solving global environmental problems.

They had $100.9 million for program expenditures in 2008.

Nuclear Age Peace Foundation

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation initiates and supports worldwide efforts to abolish nuclear weapons, to strengthen international law and institutions, and to inspire and empower a new generation of peace leaders. Founded in 1982, the Foundation is comprised of individuals and organizations worldwide who realize the imperative for peace in the Nuclear Age. The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan international education and advocacy organization. It has consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and is recognized by the UN as a Peace Messenger Organization.

In 2008 they had $1,055,129 available for projects.

World Nuclear Association *this one will be an NGO at the 2010 Conference

The WNA has Consultative Status with the United Nations.  The World Nuclear Association is a global private-sector organization that seeks to promote the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear power as a sustainable energy resource for the coming centuries.  Specifically, the WNA is concerned with nuclear power generation and all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, including mining, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, plant manufacture, transport, and the safe disposition of spent fuel.  The WNA serves its Members by facilitating their interaction on technical, commercial and policy matters and by promoting wider public understanding of nuclear technology. This dual role can be stated as follows:  To serve as the pre-eminent global forum and commercial meeting place for those engaged in providing the world's largest source of safe, economic and environmentally friendly energy; and to provide a respected information service on nuclear energy and to speak pro-actively on behalf of nuclear energy amongst policymakers, opinion leaders, the media and the public.

Forum of Global Association of Regions (FOGAR) [Part of CPMR]

FOGAR is an NGO with Observer Status at the United Nations.  Created in 2007, it is a group of regional organizations that works towards making the voice of the regions heard in a global world, to organize new rules of strategic governance including sub-state tiers, and to promote work between regions throughout the world.The Forum presently has 17 members:

The CPMR’s President and Secretary General have been entrusted with the presidency and secretariat of the forum.  The Forum has three main lines of action are: shaping and promoting a regional dimension for development strategies within States and continental or sub-continental groupings; supporting the competences of regional players to help them formulate and implement their development projects; exchanging good practices between Regions throughout the world with regard to regional development and participating in the globalization process.
