UAA Concert Board presents Iron and Wine in concert on September 25 By: Staff Sep 1, 2009
ANCHORAGE, AK – The UAA Concert Board is proud to present Iron and Wine on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wendy Williamson Auditorium.
Iron and Wine reached many new ears and fans by way of Sam Beam's tender and spare rendering of The Postal Service's “Such Great Heights” on the Garden State soundtrack; those who dug deeper discovered a classic American tunesmith with a precocious musical signature. Songs like “Lion's Mane,” “Jesus the Mexican Boy” and “Naked as We Came” are remarkable demonstrations of craft – musically memorable, lyrically evocative and casually atmospheric.
In 2009, Iron and Wine released Around The Well, a two-disc album that collected b-sides and rarities not released on earlier LPs and EPs. Around the Well serves as a helpful reminder that a discarded Iron and Wine song is still better than many fine-tuned cuts from similar bands.
Iron and Wine’s song “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” was featured in 2008’s hit movie Twilight.
Tickets are $30 for the general public and $20 for UAA students; tickets will be $5 more at the door. UAA student tickets are limited to two (both must be UAA students, with valid UAA ID). General public tickets are available online at www.UAATix.com. Tickets are also available at the UAA Student Union Information Desk. Tickets are selling fast, so buy them while you still can!
