Getting Started FAQ

Registration is the process of signing up and paying for classes for a particular semester.

Q: What is UAOnline?
A: UAOnline is the secure site for the University of Alaska. All University of Alaska students, from all three campuses and our numerous extended sites, have a UAOnline account. All current and former students have an UAOnline account--Regardless of your current registration status, if you are a former student, who attended the University of Alaska after the summer of 1982, you may be able to access your UAOnline account.

Q: How do I login to UAOnline?
A: You can login to UAOnline by going to http://uaonline.alaska.edu and choosing the 'Login to Secured Area' option from the menu. This takes you to the UAOnline login screen.

Q: Is UAOnline different from Blackboard?
A: Yes! While UAOnline is your link to your academic records, registration activity, and other account information, BlackBoard is a course-specific online learning system. For more information on BlackBoard, see the Distance Education Website.

Q: I'm a new student. How do I find my User ID and PIN for UAOnline?
A: Your UAOnline User ID is your UAA Student ID number. If you do not know your Student ID number you can Look-Up Your ID Here.

If you have never logged into UAOnline before, your default PIN is your date of birth in the format MMDDYY. Six numbers, no dashes or spaces, you're just dropping the '19' off the year. For example, if your date of birth was January 1, 1980 your PIN would be 010180. If you have logged into UAOnline before, your PIN is whatever six character/digit password you set for yourself after your initial login.

Q: I can not remember my PIN. Now what?
A: If you can not remember your PIN try putting in your User ID, leaving the PIN field blank, and hitting the 'Forgot PIN' button. This should popup the security question that you set for yourself upon your initial login to the UAOnline system. Type in the answer to your question (remembering that it is case sensitive) and hit submit. If the answer you provided is correct, you may then follow the instructions to change your PIN.

If you enter an incorrect PIN 5 times, your account will be disabled. If your account has been disabled, you can either stop by Enrollment Services, located in the University Center shopping mall of the Old Seward Highway, with a picture ID or Contact Us.

Q: How do I get my new UA Student ID Number?
A: If you do not know your Student ID number you can Look-Up Your ID Here.

Q: What if my UAOnline PIN is not working?
A: If you have never logged into UAOnline before, your default PIN is your date of birth in the format MMDDYY. If you have recently had your PIN reset, it would have been reset back to this number. If you have logged into UAOnline before, your PIN would be whatever six character long password you set for yourself during your first login session.

If you enter an incorrect PIN 5 times, your account will be disabled. If your account has been disabled, you can either stop by Enrollment Services, located in the University Center shopping mall of the Old Seward Highway or call Enrollment Services at (907) 786-1480.

Q: I have a hold. What do I do?
A: In your UAOnline account, click the 'View Holds' option. Contact the office through which the hold originated.
